Brief BiographyProf. Naian Liu graduated from USTC, getting his PhD degree of thermo-physics in 2000. Then he was employed in USTC as a lecturer at SKLFS and in 2004 promoted to be an associate professor there. In 2007 he was promoted to be a professor at SKLFS of USTC. He was elected to be the Vice Director of SKLFS in 2008. He was selected to be a visiting scholar at the University of Tokyo in 2000, and at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2004.Prof. Naian Liu is the Vice Director and professor of the State Key Laboratory of Fire Science (SKLFS) at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He is also the chief of the Division of Wildland and Urban Fires of SKLFS. The Division develops, verifies, and utilizes experiments and models to quantify the behavior of wildland (forest, grassland and brush) fire and urban fire, and develop the means to reduce the impact of the wildland and urban fires on people, property, and the environment.Research AreasWildland Fire DynamicsDecomposition and Combustibility of Forest FuelsExtreme Fire Behaviors (Fire whirl, Spot fire, Eruptive fire etc.)Wildland and Urban Interface FireProfessional ActivitiesAssociate Editor of Fire Safety Journal (2013-)Member of Editorial Board of Fire Technology (2013-)Member of Editorial Board of Fire Science Reviews (2011-)Associate Editor of IAFSS Fire Safety Science News (2013-)Executive Editor-in-Chief of Fire Safety Science (2003-)Member of Editorial Board of Journal of Combustion Science and Technology (2009-)Member of the International FORUM of Fire Research Directors (2010-)Member of International Scale Modeling Committee (2011-)Executive Organizing Committee Chair of the 9th Asia-Oceania Symposium on Fire Science and Technology (2012)Technical Program Chair of the 9th Asia-Oceania Symposium on Fire Science and Technology (2012)Organizing Committee Chair of the Annual Meeting of the International FORUM of Fire Research Directors (2012)Organizing Committee Chair of the International Forum on the Frontier of plateau Fire Safety (2011)Standing Director of China Association of Public Safety Science and Technology (2012-)Member of China National Committee for Standardization of Forest Fire Protection (2012-)Member of Indexing Working Group of International Association for Fire Safety Science (IAFSS) (2011-2012)Invited reviewer of the 32nd (2008), 33rd (2010) and 34th (2012) International Symposium on CombustionMember of the Forest Fire Prevention and Protection Committee of the Chinese Society of Forestry (2007-)Member of the Forest Fire Prevention Committee of the China Fire Protection Association (2007-)Member of the Combustion Institute (2007-)Member of the International Association for Fire Safety Science (2007-)AchievementsDuring the past 15 years, Prof. Naian Liu has been devoted to the fundamental experimental and theoretical researches on Wildland Fire Dynamics, Decomposition and Combustibility of Forest Fuels, Extreme Fire Behaviors (Fire whirl, Spot fire, etc.), Wildland and Urban Interface Fire.
