Abstract: The experimental observations found the fire smoke particles to be characteristic of the fractal structure, which enhances the collision area and influences the particle size and concentration. A numerical simulation of Brownian coagulation of fractal agglomerates of n-heptane fire smoke particles is presented by combining the fire model and the coagulation model. The fire model gives the output parameters such as soot volume fraction, air temperature, and dynamic viscosity, while the coagulation model uses the fire model output parameters to give the time dependent size distribution. The results show that compared with spherical coagulation, fractal dimension enhances the coagulation rate, the particle number concentration decreases and the geometric mean diameter increases in a bigger degree, which agrees with the measurements in a better way.
