Abstract: A Large Eddy Simulation (LES) based Field-Zone code LFZ is evaluated by comparing with the results of BRI2 (zone model), CFAST (zone model) and a full three-dimensional Large Eddy Simulation (FDS, field model). In LFZ code, the flow field in the fire room is numerically computed by the filtered three dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes equations under low-Mach number approximation by finite difference method. A volume-conservation pressure correction method based zone model is employed to compute the smoke movement in rooms without the fire source. It shows that the simulated results of new LFZ model are very close to the results of FDS, and the LFZ model can give more reasonable results than the other two models. With a view toward practical application to simulations conducted as a part of the fire safety planning, the results are promising.
