Abstract: High-intensity ultrasound was applied to the intercalation process of a-zirconium phosphate (alpha-ZrP) with alkylamine, which can increase the reaction rate obviously. In this paper, methylamine was chosen as a colloidal reagent for the exfoliation of a-ZrP, the intercalated compound of hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide(C16) with alpha-ZrP, which could be abbreviated to OZrP, was prepared by "exfoliation-intercalation method", and its structure, morphology and hydrophobic property were characterized and investigated by XRD, TEM, SEM, IR. The results indicated that the OZrP retained layered structure with the d-spacing of 2.9nm. Interestingly, the OZrP presented well hydrophobic property, which may be used as a promising precursor for preparing polymer/alpha-ZrP nanocomposites.
