His research interests encompass heat and mass transfer, multiphase flow, hydrogen energy, and biomass energy. Dr. Liao has published over 210 journal papers and issued eight patents. He was awarded the second-class Natural Science Prize of Chongqing. Prof. Liao received the National Natural Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholar of China in 2008 and was appointed as Cheung Kong Scholar Professorship by Chinese Ministry of Education in 2009. He is presently vice president of University Engineering Thermophysics Society of China, a council member of Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics, and a member of panel review committees of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He also serves as an associate editor of Energy-The International Journal, an editor of Chinese Journal of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Journal of Thermal Science and Technology, Journal of Chongqing University, and Chinese Journal of Fire Science.
