CV of the Speaker:
Dr Ying Zhen Li is a senior research scientist at SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden, working on fire dynamics and fire suppression in tunnels, scaling and CFD modeling of fires. He is the winner of "SFPE Jack Bono Award" granted by Society of Fire Protection Engineers in 2013, "ITA COSUF Award" granted by International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association - Committee on Operational Safety of Underground Facilities in 2012, "FORUM Student Travel Award" granted by International FORUM of Fire Research Directors and International Association for Fire Safety Science in 2011. He won "Excellence in Peer Review" awarded by Elsevier and Fire Safety Journal in 2014 and co-authored the book "Tunnel Fire Dynamics". He also serves as scientific committee member of the International Symposium on Tunnel Safety and Security.
Abstract:
Catastrophic tunnel fires have occurred in the past two decades and understanding of the mechanisms is in urgent need. To fulfil this need, a book titled “Tunnel Fire Dynamics” covering a wide range of key issues has been recently published, and a short introduction will be given. To improve the safety level, the interest to install water-based fire suppression systems in tunnels is continuously increasing. The system performance and possible adverse effects have been investigated by use of advanced model scale tests and full scale tunnel tests. The findings will be presented.
