Abstract: ZnO crystals with different morphologies, including spindle-like and porous flake, have been synthesized by a mild aqueous solution route, using zinc based nanobelts as the precursor. The morphology control mechanism was investigated. During the formation of ZnO crystals, the by-product plays a key role and reaction temperature is also an important factor. The synthesized ZnO samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction measurements (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy. These results show that the as-prepared ZnO samples have a uniform structure with high purity and excellent UV-Vis emission properties. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
