Abstract: Effervescent atomization is a method of twin-fluid atomization, which has been rarely applied in fire suppression by now. In order to investigate fire suppression effectiveness of water mist produced by effervescent atomizer, an effervescent atomizer has been designed and an APV system was used to measure water mist field characteristics produced by. the atomizer. Fire extinguishing experiments were conducted in a 3 m x3 m x3 m confined space and fire sources were ethanol and kerosene. The experimental results show that water mist generated by effervescent atomizer can extinguish ethanol fire and kerosene fire in a short time. Effervescent atomization has wide application prospects in fire suppression.
