Abstract: Lining materials, widely used in room decoration, with their intrinsic combustibility may produce a potentially high fire hazard in buildings. In this paper, full-scale fire experiments were carried out in an ISO room to study the behavior of plywood ling in real fire conditions. Typical thin and thick plywood linings with the thickness of 5mm and 12mm respectively were chosen and installed in two ways, one with linings mounted on walls only, the other with linings mounted on both walls and ceiling. By measuring important experimental data associated with the enclosure fire growth, including heat release rate, room temperatures, lining surface temperatures, the height of hot and cold smoke layer etc, the effects of lining materials' thickness and set-up on fire spread have been researched. The study not only investigated the effect of the lining on the enclosure fire growth, but also proposed useful experimental data for the numerical simulation of enclosure fire growth lined with combustible lining materials.
