Abstract: boilover fire is a mutation phenomenon on tank fire, which can cause great loss on casualty and property. To study the hazard of boilover fire, the experimental system was bulit. A series of small-scale boilover experiments were carried out. The mutation of burning velocity, heat release rate, flame temperature, thermal radiation and flame height in the combustions of mixed crude oil on boilover and pre-boilover stage were studied. The values of burning velocity, heat release rate and radiation in boilover became times to several decuple of those mean values. Based on the technology of High-speed photography, the mechanism of boilover was discussed. Which could provide theory on loss control of boilover Fire on full-scale oil tank fire.
