Abstract: The GAOT genetic algorithm (GA) based on Matlab and the zone model, CalSmoke, was integrated by establishing the fitness function and chromosome encoding scheme reasonably, and was further used to study the optimization of smoke control in large space buildings. A case study was performed for an atrium, with different air inlets distribution schemes were tested, compared and the best one was selected. Results show that the ground floor is the best location to deploy fresh air inlets, which is further compared and validated by FDS simulation results. It's demonstrated that GA is an effective tool for the air supply-smoke control design optimization of large space buildings.
