Abstract: In forest fires, it is important to assess the ignition probability of combustible materials, for example, leaves, branch, bole, etc.. Or those factors affecting ignition performance of material, the moisture content of combustible materials plays an important role. In this paper, effect of moisture content on ignition performance of fallen leaves of elm is studied in details by designing a simple testing apparatus. Based on lots of experiments, conclusion about the effect of moisture content on ignition performance of fallen leaves of elm is drawn, ie., the effect of moisture content of fallen leaves of elm on their ignition probability is not so obvious. Explanation of the conclusion is given simply.
