Abstract: Effect of backdraft to flashover is described in the paper. Existing studies to backdraft focused on the phenomenon itself. Most documented experiments showed that backdraft lasted for about one minute. However in some fire cases, after backdraft, the fire will last for a rather long time. Based on the qualitative model of flashover, the effect of backdraft to compartment fire is discussed. The results indicate that under suitable pyrolyzate concentration, a backdraft can result in a flashover in a compartment fire.
