In the morning of July 25,2010,Professer Vladimir Molkov, one of the internationally renowned experts in fire explosion and hydrogen safety, visited State Key Laboratory of Fire Science and made presentations entitled as “Hydrogen Safety Research- State-of-the-Art” and “A Multi-Phenomena Turbulent Burning Velocity Model for LES of Premixed”. After the presentations, in-depth discussions were made on the research topics with the staff and students of the fire laboratory.
Prof Molkov received his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Physics, including Physics of Combustion and Explosions from the Moscow University in 1984, and a Doctorate degree of Science in Fire Safety from All-Russian Institute for Fire Protection in 1997. Prof. Molkov joined University of Ulster since June 1999 and is currently a Professor of Fire Safety Science at the university. He has established a new research area of fire and explosion safety at UU, i.e. hydrogen safety, as well as the HySAFER (Hydrogen Safety Engineering and Research) team which has been internationally recognised by the research and education activities and external funding in 2007. His researches are on modelling and large eddy simulations of hydrogen releases and dispersion, including high pressure under-expanded jets, spontaneous ignition of sudden releases, jet fires, deflagrations and detonations at large scales, innovative hydrogen mitigation technologies.
