Description:
The medium-scale fire whirl facility is a square enclosure made of tempered glasses, with dimensions of 2 m ×2 m×15 m. The channel is open at the top. Each wall has a uniform 20 cm wide vertical gap at its corner so that the entrained air induced by the burning flame could enter into the channel, thus imparting a rotational flow necessary for fire whirl formation. The base table (2 m × 2 m × 1.5 m) was made of pine wood with a round hole (60 cm in diameter and 10 cm in depth) in the center for placing fuel pans of different sizes.
Specifications / capabilities:
♦ The largest size of fire whirl apparatus up to now in the world.
♦ To obtain the fire whirl formation mechanism by experimental observation of its formation, development and decay, with different fuels and pans of different sizes to change the flow circulation effect.
♦ To study the fire whirl combustion dynamics, including the mass loss rate by electronic balance, flame height and diameter by camera, fuel-rich vortex core by high-speed camera, temperature and velocity distribution by thermocouples and pitot tubes, radiation by heat flow meters.
