Abstract: In order to explore the flame microstructure and propagation behavior of premixed propane/air flame in a semi-vented pipe, the high speed video camera and schlieren image method were used to record the photographs of flame propagation process. Meanwhile, the pressure sensors were set up to detect the pressure variation course and the ionization current probe to discern the reaction zone behavior. The result shows the evolution of particular tulip flame clearly. The forming of tulip flame indicates the transition from laminar to turbulent combustion. The ion current result shows different characters in the transition. In addition, the paper discussed pressure influence of flow field on the flame front structure, and found that pressure played an important role on the flame front change. When the pressure in unburned gas became larger than in burned field, the flame front shape may be inclined to reverse.
