Principal Investigator: Prof. Hu Yuan
Funding Source: Anhui Science and Technology Department
Project Period: 2001-2003
Abstract:
In this project, the novel methodology of the clean flame retardant polymer (engineering plastics)/layered inorganic material nanocomposites are developed by the combination of the technologies of nanocomposite, reactive extrusion and non-halogen flame retardant and the theories of fire safety engineering. The several suitable kinds of polymer, flame retardant, synergistic agents and layered inorganic materials are selected to prepare the clean flame retardant polymer/clay nanocomposites using melting blend method. The thermal stability, flammability, physical properties and flame retardant mechanism are investigated to explore the relation between structures and properties. Moreover, the high throughput technical processes are studied to establish the foundation for the industrialization of the clean flame retardant polymer nanocomposites.
