Achievements
In recent years, Prof. Fei Qi concentrates on the development of synchrotron VUV photoionization mass spectrometry (SVUV-PIMS) and its applications in various research topics of combustion chemistry. The wide tunability of synchrotron photon energy can facilitate the selective identification of isomeric intermediates and near-threshold detection of radicals to avoid fragmentation interference. With the unambiguous detection and precise concentration measurement of combustion intermediates by SVUV-PIMS, kinetic models used in the numerical simulation of combustion processes can be developed with high accuracy, which is crucial for the solution of combustion-related problems. Prof. Fei Qi is not only one of the pioneers who applied SVUV-PIMS in premixed flame a decade ago, but also the first individual who successfully applies this technique in many other combustion topics such as pyrolysis, low-temperature oxidation, coflow diffusion flame, catalytic oxidation, plasma diagnostics, and analysis of PAHs and soot.
The efforts of Fei Qi have been widely recognized by the scientific community. His novel findings of enols and hydroperoxides in combustion processes were reported in Science and Angewandte Chemie respectively. As one of the very few researchers internationally, he has published more than 20 papers during last 5 years on Proceedings of the Combustion Institute and Combustion and Flame which are top two peer-reviewed international journals on combustion. Besides, the breadth of his work is evident from the different publications reported in journals of Engineering, Chemistry, Instrument, and Astrophysics. Accordingly, he has been honored with several prestigious awards and memberships in international boards and organizations.
